Dialstone (Offerton) Leisure Centre Consultation

Closed 12 Feb 2023

Opened 9 Jan 2023

Overview

Stockport Council is facing extreme financial pressures. These pressures mean that we have a number of difficult decisions to make. In November to December, we introduced a range of ideas to the public of Stockport as part of a public consultation. This second part of our budget consultation focusses on a proposed change to the leisure offer in Stockport.

Our proposal

We propose that Dialstone (Offerton) Leisure Centre is permanently closed.

Why are we proposing this?

By doing this and reviewing how other leisure centres are managed, the council will be able to reduce the financial support required to operate these facilities by £0.200m per year. This will achieve the £0.100m required by 2023/24 and an outstanding saving of £0.100m from 2022/23.

Dialstone (Offerton) Leisure Centre

Dialstone (Offerton) Leisure Centre has been closed since January 2022 and has not reopened due to significant damage to the site caused by flooding. Approximately £0.150m of capital expenditure is required to bring the Centre back into use.

During the period of closure, the majority of users have been relocated elsewhere. Life Leisure have launched an Active Communities programme at Offerton Community Centre to ensure that local residents have opportunities to become more active in their community whilst the site is closed. It is proposed that this programme is continued and, subject to demand, expanded to compensate for the permanent closure of the centre.  We will continue to look at ways to enhance the leisure offer in the area.
