The Council’s overall strategic transport ambition is to increase the number of children walking or cycling to school, both to reduce congestion on roads, improve local air quality, and improve health outcomes. In order for this to be achieved, it is important that walking or cycling to school is a safe option for children and their families.
To support this ambition, the Traffic Services Team have been working to tackle key concerns which have been raised by schools, residents and local Members. Site investigations have been undertaken to review the operation outside each school and the surrounding roads.
Following the responses received to the consultation exercise undertaken in March 2020 officers have taken on board comments received form residents of Highfield Park. Concerns were raised about parked vehicles making access to the full length of Highfield Park with access for emergency vehicles being of particular concern.
There are 3 plans showing options of Traffic Regulation Orders which could be introduced on Highfield Park in order to address the issues raised.
Your feedback is valued and appreciated and we welcome your involvement in the process. We regret that we will be unable to reply to all individuals but we will collate, analyse and consider all responses received and the feedback from the consultation will be used as part of the decision-making process prior to the implementation of any amendments to the existing measures.
