ITB - Sundial Rd Estate, Offerton- 20mph Speed Limit Zone
Overview
Proposed 20mph Speed Limit Zones
Stockport Council has adopted a policy of introducing 20mph speed limits within residential areas as part of its commitment to improving road safety and creating safer, healthier neighbourhoods. In support of the Council's wider Road Safety Strategy, which encourages walking, wheeling and cycling, this area has been identified as one where a reduced speed limit could provide road safety benefits for residents and all road users.
Proposed Measures
A 20mph Speed Limit Zone covering the following roads for their entire lengths in both directions:
- Beekeeper Close
- Biddulph Avenue
- Gipsy Lane
- Hazel Drive
- Hive Lane
- Lisburne Avenue*
- Offerton Drive
- Raisbeck Road*
- School Drive
- Sundial Road*
- Tragan Close
- Tragan Drive
- Whistle Hollow Way
- Wildflower Close
- Woodcroft*
- Woodley Close
This will compliment the existing 20mph Speed Limit Zone:
- Babbacombe Road
- Deeracre Avenue
- Leyburne Road
- Oakland Avenue(*both ends)
- Stainburne Road*
- Swanage Avenue
- Wellfield Road*
- Worthing Close
To help ensure compliance with the new speed limit, three road humps are proposed on Sundial Road. These measures are required to make the zone self-enforcing, as signage alone is often insufficient to reduce vehicle speeds on longer or straighter roads.
To further support the implementation of the speed limit the scheme will also include the following to ensure visibility and compliance:
- Entrance signs at eight key junctions*
- Repeater signs throughout the zone
- 20mph road marking roundels
