School Holiday and Term Dates General Principles
Overview
The Local Authority is responsible for setting School Holiday and Term Dates for all maintained schools within the borough. Term dates are consulted on each year as part of the School Admissions and Term Dates consultation and generally provide an option of one or two weeks for Primary schools in the summer half-term.
This consultation will outline some general principles for setting holiday and term dates with examples of how a set of principles look in real terms. The dates outlined will begin from 2025-26 as holiday and term dates up until then have already been determined.

The feedback will be used to inform a general set of principles the Local Authority will use from 2025/26 onwards.

What happens next
Responses will be carefully considered by senior education officers within the Council to determine an appropriate set of principles for determining holiday and term dates in the future. These dates will then be determined 18 months in advance by 28th February each year.
The agreed set of principles will be published on the Council’s consultation portal within 4 weeks of this consultation closing.
