Part 1:  Closure of Lark Hill Nursery School

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council proposes to discontinue the following community nursery school with effect from 25 July 2025.

Part 2: Alteration of the lower age limit at Lark Hill Primary School

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council proposes to change the age range at the following community school from 4 – 11 to 2 – 11 to create a primary school with nursery provision with effect from 1 September 2025.

Lark Hill Primary School, Northgate Road, Edgeley, Stockport SK3 9PH

The primary school’s pupil capacity would be 210 and will offer 26 places for 3 and 4 year olds (52 across the week) and 8 places for 2 year olds (16 places across the week). The primary school would continue to operate on the existing school site under a single governing board and headteacher. 

All children attending the nursery school on the date of amalgamation would automatically have a place in nursery provision at the primary school. No children would be displaced by the proposals.

The proposal is not related to any other school organisation proposal which has been or is about to be published.

Explanatory note

Stockport Council will determine the statutory proposal within two months of the end of the representation period.  If the Council fails to determine the notice within this time, it will pass all relevant material to the Schools Adjudicator who will determine the notice. 

Why your views matter

This consultation is the second of two consultations required to make permanent change to the school's age range. At this stage, the Council is wishing to understand the if the proposal is supported
