Statutory proposals to amalgamate Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School into a single primary school from 1 September 2026
Overview – Proposed amalgamation of Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School
The proposal is to amalgamate Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School by closing Nevill Road Junior School and enlarging Nevill Road Infant School to include Key Stage 2 provision.
Part 1: Closure of Nevill Road Junior School (DfE number 356/2064)
Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 15(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and regulation 12 of the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council proposes to discontinue the following community junior school with effect from 31 August 2026.

Part 2: Alteration of the upper age limit at Nevill Road Infant School (DfE number 356/2063)
Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council proposes to change the age range at the following community infant school from 2 – 7 to 2 – 11 to create a primary school with nursery provision with effect from 1 September 2026.

Under section 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, the closure of Nevill Road Junior School is considered necessary on the basis that it is to be amalgamated with another school (Nevill Road Infant School)
The primary school’s pupil capacity would be 420 and will offer 60 Reception places every September. The amalgamated primary school would continue to operate on the existing school site under a single governing board and headteacher.
All children attending Nevill Road Junior School on the date of amalgamation would automatically have a place at the primary school. No children would be displaced by the proposals.
The proposal is not related to any other school organisation proposal which has been or is about to be published.
