Statutory proposals to amalgamate Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School into a single primary school

Overview

Each time an infant or junior school Headteacher announces their intention to leave their school, consideration is given to whether the schools should become a single primary school. The headteacher at Nevill Road Junior School will leave the school at the end of the 2025/26 academic year.

Between 21 January 2026 and 24 February 2026, an initial consultation took place on proposals to amalgamate Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School into a single primary school from September 2026.  In total, 46 responses were received to the consultation with 34 being in favour of the proposal and 6 against. Following the closure of the consultation period, the Director of Education, Work and Skills considered the responses submitted and made a decision to proceed to the publication of statutory proposals.  

The proposal is to amalgamate Nevill Road Infant School and Nevill Road Junior School by closing Nevill Road Junior School and enlarging Nevill Road Infant School to include Key Stage 2 provision from 1 September 2026.

All children currently on roll at Nevill Road Junior School will be enrolled at the amalgamated primary school which will work in the same school buildings. The proposed Published Admission Number of the amalgamated primary school will be 60.
