Road Safety Around Schools - St Thomas Church of England Primary School
Overview
The Council’s overall strategic transport ambition is to increase the number of children walking or cycling to school to reduce congestion on roads, improve local air quality, and improve health outcomes. In order for this to be achieved, it is important that walking or cycling to school is a safe option for children and their families. To support this ambition, the Feasibility and Road Safety Team have been working to tackle key concerns which have been raised by schools and local Members.
To improve awareness of the 20mph speed limit on Marriott Street and to better accommodate pedestrian movements to/from the school, the following improvements have been identified surrounding St Thomas C of E Primary School:
- Relocation of the existing school 20mph zone signage at the eastern end of Marriott Street to improve visibility;
- Relocation of the existing school 20mph zone signage to the western end of Marriott Street to extend the area covered; and
- Widening of the existing speed cushion on Marriott Street to provide an uncontrolled crossing point.
