Safe Streets Save Lives (SSSL) District Centre 20mph Zones - Marple District Centre
Overview
As part of the borough-wide ‘One Stockport’ initiative, Stockport Council introduced a series of traffic measures in Marple and other District Centres within Stockport. The measures were implemented to make the local shopping area safer for everyone who uses it using the government’s Safe Streets Save Lives grant.
These measures being:-
- 20mph Zonal Area
- Increased Signage
- Bolt down Traffic Calming Cushions
We have created a 20mph zone to encourage reduced vehicle speeds. New 20mph zones sign have been erected on all vehicle access points into the 20mph zone. The 20mph speed limit zones have been introduced on the following roads:
- Stockport Road – between Church Lane and Canal Street
- Hollins Lane – between Stockport Road and Fern Close
- Hibbert Lane – between Stockport Road and Church Lane
- Church Lane
- Derby Street
- Highfield Road
- Union Road
- Ellesmere Avenue
- Springfield Avenue
Within the zone we have installed five pairs of 20mph speed limit repeater signs onto existing lighting columns along Stockport Road to help reinforce the new speed limit.
Four pairs of bolt down speed cushions have been installed. Three pairs on Stockport Road and one pair on Hollins Lane
These were installed as temporary measures with a promise to consult on whether they should be retained for longer or removed as planned. The Network Management Section would now like to gain your feedback on the SSSL measures introduced within Marple District Centre.
The feedback we receive will also help us to understand if the measures are making a positive difference, any alterations that we need to consider and inform how we deliver this type of scheme in the future.
