Road Safety around Schools – Brookside Primary School
Overview
The Council’s overall strategic transport ambition is to increase the number of children walking or cycling to school to reduce congestion on roads, improve local air quality, and improve health outcomes. In order for this to be achieved, it is important that walking or cycling to school is a safe option for children and their families. To support this ambition, the Feasibility and Road Safety Team have been working to tackle key concerns which have been raised by schools and local Members.
To reduce the impact of inconsiderate parking and to highlight to passing vehicles there are children in the area, the following improvements have been identified surrounding Brookside Primary School:
- Installation of dropped kerbs and tactile paving at the following junctions: school access road / Ashbourne Drive and Manifold Drive / Ashbourne Drive;
- Proposed ‘No Loading’ between 08:30-09:30 and 15:00-16:30 restrictions on Ashbourne Drive and the school access road to supplement the existing ‘No Waiting at Times Shown’ restrictions which cover the same time periods;
- Upgrade of the existing school warning signage on Ashbourne Drive and Manifold Drive;
- Relining of the existing single yellow lines on Hartington Road; and
- Relining of the give-way markings at the junction of Ashbourne Drive / Hartington Road.
