Public Space Protection Order Extension: Car Cruising

Closed 19 Dec 2019

Opened 7 Nov 2019

Overview

Stockport Council put in place a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to deal with car cruising on 17th March 2017. This followed on from significant concerns from residents and businesses about large scale gatherings of cars at Heaton Lane and Newbridge Lane car parks. In addition to the disruption at the car parks, the meetings were also characterised by dangerous driving both on site and also in the Town Centre as people arrived and left the car parks.

The existing PSPO will expire in March 2020. PSPOs are made under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

We are now consulting on our proposal to extend this proposal by a further three years until March 2023. A final decision on whether to extend this PSPO will be made by the lead Cabinet Member for Sustainable Stockport. The decision will be published on our Consulation Hub.
