A6 / Heaton Lane Consultation
Overview
As part of the Town Centre Access Plan and Stockport Interchange projects, Stockport Council is consulting on proposed changes to the A6 / Heaton Lane junction and the introduction of a ‘Busway’ on Heaton Lane.
In July 2019 a new bridge opened across the River Mersey in the town centre to enhance bus routing and sustainable accessibility. This was the first phase in the delivery of Stockport’s new Transport Interchange on the bus station site.
The bridge provides a two-way link for buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians between the bus station and A6 (via Heaton Lane). Access for general motor traffic is southbound only from Heaton Lane to Chestergate (there is no access for general motor traffic northbound from Chestergate to Heaton Lane).
The Council also opened the new Travis Brow to A6 link this year which provides an alternative route between the A6 and the west side of the town including M60 Junction 1.
We would like your views on the proposals to implement further measures to enhance bus routing and sustainable accessibility. These proposals include changes to the A6 / Heaton Lane junction and the introduction of a Busway on Heaton Lane.
More information about Stockport’s new Transport Interchange is available online at www.stockport.gov.uk/transport-interchange.
If you require this consultation in an alternative format, or if you have any questions about the proposals for the A6 / Heaton Lane junction and Heaton Lane Busway please contact the team on 0161 474 2299 or at towncentreaccess@stockport.gov.uk.
