Westfield Drive Estate 20mph Speed Limit Zone - Woodley
Overview
Stockport Council has a policy of implementing 20mph speed limit zones on residential estate roads. Following a review, officers have identified potential road safety benefits in introducing a 20mph limit in this area. This measure would support active travel by encouraging walking and cycling and align with the recently completed Road Safety Around Schools scheme.
Proposed Measures
The proposal includes:
- A 20mph Speed Limit Zone covering the following roads in both directions for their entire lengths:
-
- Ashdown Avenue
- Bowland Road
- Boundary Close
- Charnwood Road
- Clough Meadow
- Delamere Close
- Needwood Road
- Northdown Avenue
- Savernake Road
- Sherwood Road
- Westfield Drive
- Installation of traffic calming speed cushions on Westfield Drive to support compliance with the new speed limit.
In accordance with policy, Speed Limit Zones should be self-enforcing. Speed cushions contribute to achieving this objective, as signage alone may be insufficient—particularly on longer stretches of road where drivers may be more likely to travel at inappropriate speeds.
The implementation of speed cushions on Westfield Drive is necessary to effectively reduce vehicle speeds and to support compliance with the designated 20mph Zone, thereby enhancing road safety and ensuring the effectiveness of the traffic calming measures
