Road Safety around Schools – Greave Primary School
Overview
The Council’s strategic objective in transport planning is to increase the proportion of children who walk or cycle to school. This initiative is intended to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance local air quality, and contribute to improved public health outcomes.
To realise this ambition, it is imperative that walking and cycling are safe and viable modes of travel for children and their families.
In alignment with this objective, Traffic Services have been actively addressing concerns raised by schools, residents and elected Members. As a result of these consultations, a series of targeted improvements have been identified in the vicinity of Greave Primary School.
Proposed Measures
- Introduction of restriction for No Waiting & No Loading Mon – Fri, 8.30 – 9.30 am & 2.30 – 4pm (Single Yellow Lines), on Werneth Road Pedestrian crossing Island (eastern side opposite the bus stop). To keep this stretch of carriageway clear of parked vehicles to aid intervisibility of pedestrians at the crossing point and vehicles navigating their way through the area
- Introduction of restriction for No Waiting ‘At Any Time’ (Double Yellow Lines), with No Loading Mon – Fri, 8.30 – 9.30am & 2.30 – 4pm on Werneth Road around the Traffic Island (north of school entrance). To keep this stretch of carriageway clear of parked vehicles to aid vehicles navigating their way through the area.
- Extension of restriction of No Waiting ‘At Any Time’ (Double Yellow lines), with addition of No Loading Mon – Fri, 8.30 – 9.30 am & 2.30 – 4pm, on Werneth Low Road, to keep that access clear.
- Extension to restriction of No Waiting ‘At Any Time’ with the addition of No Loading 8.30 – 9.30am & 2.30 – 4pm on Werneth Road within the hatched markings (from crossing point at Greave down onto Werneth Road towards the school), to aid visibility at the crossing point.
- Existing restriction of No Waiting ‘At Any Time’ with the addition of No loading Mon – Fri, 8.30 – 9.30 am and 2.30 – 4pm, on Greave (Western side coming up to the patrol crossing before the parking bays), to aid visibility.
- Introduction of 1 x New School Keep Clear Marking to the southern entrance to the school with associated signage.
- Installation of Pencil bollards outside the school to prevent encroachment onto the footway.
- Installation of 1 x Middleton bollard before the parking bay to prevent parking on the footway.
