Chester Road Highway Improvements – Have Your Say
Stockport Council are proposing to carry out some highway works to upgrade a section of the existing footway on Chester Road to a shared footway / cycleway. The proposed highway scheme has been funded with a contribution from Redrow Homes in association with the housing development at Woodford Garden Village (DC/053832 - Section 106 Agreement). The S106 contributions are to fund improvements to the local walking and cycling network to encourage sustainable travel between the new development and local centres at Bramhall and Poynton.

Proposals Overview
The scheme is located on the southern side of Chester Road, between Bridle Road and Roy Chadwick Way and focuses on improving cycling facilities within the highway. The proposed works will include:
- The provision of a shared footway / cycleway with associated hazard warning paving, signage and drainage, including the removal of grass verges and carriageway narrowing to provide an adequate width.
- Changes to the junction of Bridle Road with Chester Road to provide:
-
- An uncontrolled crossing with tactile paving.
- Footway widening to reduce the crossing distance and reduce turning speeds at the junction.
- Extension of No Waiting At Any Time restrictions (double yellow lines) along the south side of Chester Road from approximately 25m east of Bridle Road to the east side of the bridge over Roy Chadwick Way.
- Removal of the existing refuge island (located outside 383-385 Chester Road) and construction of a new pedestrian refuge island (Outside 380-381 Chester Road).
We believe the proposal to provide a shared footway / cycleway offers positive benefits and the council would like to consult with you on the proposed scheme. You can also make any comments you may wish to make until the 30th November 2025.
Your response to the consultation will be considered as part of the scheme development and approval process prior to any implementation. Unfortunately, we may not be able to respond to all queries individually, but all queries raised will be addressed in the council area committee report which will be available to the public to review.
