Bus Pinch Points – Marple Road

Overview

We have drafted highways proposals for Marple Road, between Offerton Road and Dooley Lane, which have been developed utilising funds from the Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS). This element of the fund is allocated to ‘Bus Pinch Point’ schemes. These are schemes that aim to reduce bus travel time at known points of congestion and/or improve safety for bus users.

The scheme for Marple Road, has been developed to align with the funding available and includes:

• Widening of Marple Road, to facilitate extended left turn lanes on Marple Road at the junctions with Offerton Road and Dooley Lane in order to improve the operation of the junctions. This would require removal of a number of trees, which would be replaced elsewhere within the locality.
• The eastbound bus stop would be relocated to reflect the revised kerbline, with provision of a raised kerb to allow for level access to and from the buses.
• Widening of the pavement along the same length as the carriageway is being widened.
