As shown on the drawing, the proposed shared path would connect in the east to Bruntwood Lane, immediately south of the car park entrance. A small section of hedge would need to be trimmed on Bruntwood Lane for visibility. The new path would continue west between the car park and Bruntwood Cottages, retaining the existing trees. The proposed path would stay close to the perimeter of the adjacent field as it continues north-west with a link provided to the car park. A short length of path is proposed to link north towards The Kiosk, crossing the car park access road on a raised crossing. Tree pruning works would be required locally (lower branches removed to achieve headroom) and, subject to survey, saplings may need to be relocated if they are affected by the route.

The shared path continues south of Oak Cottage and adjacent to the tree line towards the footbridge, on which it is proposed for the existing timber fencing to be replaced. The route then continues north-west along an existing mown track across the field, passing close to a tree that will also need to have its lower branches trimmed to achieve the required headroom.

Towards the western end, the proposed facility joins the existing footpath running from the park to Cheadle Royal roundabout. This is proposed to be widened to 3m to accommodate shared pedestrian and cyclist use. The route continues west, joining existing shared use paths at the roundabout. The chicane fencing will be replaced with bollards that can be dropped for occasional authorised vehicular access.

A detailed lighting design would be developed by our specialist colleagues to ensure suitable levels of illumination whilst minimising glare and light intrusion at neighbouring properties and the wider greenspace. This will consider the type of lighting to be used, column sizes, and positioning, in collaboration with our ecologists and in compliance with applicable guidance. The proposed locations of lamp columns are shown indicatively on the drawing.

We would welcome your views on the proposals, specifically to what extent you agree or disagree with them. Please provide your feedback via the link at the bottom of this page. The consultation is running until 9th November.

All responses to this engagement will be considered prior to any implementation taking place, which would be planned for 2026.
