A34MRN Scheme 7 - Bruntwood Park to Cheadle Royal
Overview

A34MRN Scheme 7: Bruntwood Park to Cheadle Royal
Our A34 Corridor Improvement Plan includes a series of measures to enhance walking and cycling connectivity, ease congestion at key locations and unlock growth potential between the M60 and A555.
The plan includes an improved walk, wheel and cycle route and safer crossings connecting to the wider and expanding Bee Network. The Bee Network is Greater Manchester’s vision for a more ‘joined up’, sustainable and accessible transport system, including for those walking, wheeling or cycling.
The plan also includes a series of junction layout changes to improve traffic flows.
Information about the measures being implemented and how they were developed is at: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/a34-corridor-improvement-plan.
The proposals were supported during public consultation and received approval to be delivered. Following the submission of our Full Business Case, the government approved funding for the delivery of this plan in late 2023. Construction is in phases between 2024 and 2028, planned and co-ordinated to manage all forms of disruption as much as possible.
Bruntwood Park
The plan includes improvements to an active travel route between Stanley Road and Bruntwood Park, with onward connection via Bruntwood Lane to Cheadle. This is mainly an off-road route and includes path widening, surfacing and lighting, also new crossings at Eden Park Road and Etchells Road. Some of these works have now been completed or are ongoing.
The plan also includes improvements for general traffic as well as for walking and wheeling at and around the A34 / Cheadle Royal roundabout, including active travel links to Kingsway School, Foxlands Road and Broadway, and Bruntwood Park.
Due to changing conditions and delivery constraints, we are exploring alternatives to our proposal of building a route for walking and wheeling directly adjacent to the A34 carriageway between Etchells Road and Cheadle Royal.
We are proposing an alternative route through Bruntwood Park to establish this important connection. The path is proposed to be 3m wide for shared pedestrian and cyclist use, it would have a paved surface and it would be lit during hours of darkness.
The proposals have been developed by highway engineers in collaboration with street lighting specialists, ecological and arboriculture officers and our Neighbourhoods team.
We want to know what you think of our ideas to improve the path and would appreciate you taking the time to look at the proposals and giving your feedback.
