Hollywood Park is recognised as being an important green space for people living in Edgeley and the town centre. As the town centre population grows, we want to make sure the park remains a place that everyone can enjoy, somewhere to socialise and spend time with nature. We understand there is a desire within the local community to make the most of this space as a top priority.

The park has the potential to link Edgeley with new developments and the wider town centre, but improvements are needed both within the park and in the surrounding areas to enhance the accessibility for walking and cycling, making routes easier and more welcoming. There are existing pedestrian and cyclist routes within the park but the layout does not meet the current guidelines.

Hardman Street

Two options are proposed for Hardman Street / Gradwell Street as follows:

  • The first option proposes to introduce a one-way southbound route for motor vehicles on Hardman Street between East Street and Gradwell Street, with pavement buildouts, resident parking bays and uncontrolled crossings to improve pedestrian and cyclist accessibility to Hollywood Park. A contraflow, northbound cycle lane would be provided to maintain 2-way cycling along Hardman Street, supported by double yellow lines to protect the route from parked vehicles.
  • A second option includes proposed improvements to the uncontrolled crossings for pedestrians over Hardman Street between Gradwell Street and Hollywood Park. Double yellow lines are proposed along Hardman Street to protect the existing footway, the recently agreed resident parking bays would be retained. Traffic speeds and flows are currently low enough for Gradwell Street to be used as a quiet street for cycling in the carriageway.

Hollywood Park Path

Two options are proposed for the Hollywood Park paths as follows:

  • The first option proposes to remove the path segregation markings in Hollywood Park and replace them with a layout where pedestrians and cyclists share the full width of the existing path, supported by shared use signage. This is consistent with paths in other parks across Stockport.
  • The second option proposes amendments to the path to maintain a marked segregation between pedestrians and cyclists, but to widths that comply with current design guidelines.

At the Grenville Street entrance to the park, it is proposed to reduce the wide tarmac area and introduce more planting.

Grenville Street / Bloom Street

At the junctions of Grenville Street with Bloom Street and Aberdeen Crescent, it is proposed to widen the pavement, provide bollards and remove parking on the corners with yellow lines to provide better crossing points, calm traffic and enhance visibility for all users.  Trees are proposed to be planted on the widened footways. Where it is safe to park, bays will be provided.

Grenville Street / Ealing Road / Wood Street

The existing path between Grenville Street / Ealing Road and Wood Street is proposed to be upgraded to a shared use path with improvements to the surfacing, relocation of handrails to the edge of the path and provision of bollards at the ends of the path to protect access. The lighting would be retained.
