Link to Plan 7

1. Do you support the proposals to convert the existing Toucan (shared) crossing at King Street West between Gradwell Street and Shield Street to a Sparrow (parallel pedestrian and cyclist) crossing, and introduce a raised surface at the Gradwell Street junction with a cycle priority crossing?

The crossing is to be connected to Shield Street by an existing pedestrian and cycle route which links to Daw Bank.

2. Do you support the proposal of a raised junction and cycle priority crossing at Gradwell Street?

This will require vehicles turning in and out of Gradwell Street to stop and give way to cyclists.

3. Do you support the proposal of a segregated pedestrian and cycle route along the west side of King Street West between Shield Street and Chatham Street?
4. Do you support the provision of a raised junction with a reduced crossing width for pedestrians and a cycle crossing of the cycle route over Chatham Street?
5. Do you support a proposed segregated route along the west side of Shaw Heath between Chatham Street and Moseley Street?

This includes the provision of a continuous pavement across Bowdon Street to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists is proposed.  Existing resident parking bays will be retained.

6. Do you support the proposed closure of Bengal Street to vehicular traffic at the Shaw Heath junction to provide widened pavements and a segregated route to provide pedestrian and cycle connections between Stockport Station and Edgeley?

To enable the closure of Bengal Street, the existing closure on Moseley Street would be removed and there would be a proportion of existing parking bays relocated from Bengal Street to the reopened Moseley Street.

7. Do you support the proposed raised table at the junction of Station Road, at the entrance to the Station to improve the pedestrian crossing point?

This would be subject to agreement with Network Rail.

8. Do you support the proposals to convert the Toucan (shared) crossing on Shaw Heath near Station Road, between Bengal Street and Moseley Street to a Sparrow (parallel pedestrian and cyclist) crossing?

This includes the provision of a wide pedestrian crossing point and a separate cycle crossing.

9. Two options are proposed along Moseley Street at the junction with Shaw Heath, please indicate which option you support:
10. Do you support the proposals on Mercian Way to include the following?
  • Proposals to replace the existing Puffin (pedestrian only) crossing on Mercian Way with a Toucan crossing.  The crossing will be widened and the carriageway will be narrowed to allow extra space for pedestrian and cycle use.
  • A proposed segregated pedestrian and cycle route on the east side of Mercian Way from the new Toucan crossing leading to Booth Street. This will connect to the existing Toucan crossing over Mercian Way to Newton Street.
11. Do you support the proposals to improve the pedestrian and new cycle link between Booth Street and Randolph Place?
12. Do you support the proposals to introduce a Sparrow (parallel pedestrian and cyclist) crossing on Booth Street to connect to the existing shared pedestrian and cycle route to Moscow Road East, and a Puffin (pedestrian) crossing on Mercian Way?
13. Do you support the proposals to introduce a segregated pedestrian and cycle route on Mercian Way from Booth Street to Worrall Street, including…?
  • A segregated route is proposed for pedestrians and cyclists along the south side of Mercian Way between Booth Street and Worrall Street. A raised carriageway is proposed at the Bergara Close junction, where there would be a level surface for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Bergara Close and motorists would give way to cyclists.
  • This route would link via quieter, residential streets to Edgeley Park, Alexandra Park and residential areas of Edgeley and Cheadle Heath.
  • The carriageway would be narrowed on Mercian Way, with sufficient space retained to maintain right turn lanes to Booth Street, Bergara Close and Worrall Street. The existing pedestrian refuge east of Bergara Close would also be retained in modified form.
  • The existing parking bay on the southern side of Mercian Way, between Bergara Close and Worrall Street is to be retained and extended.
  • The existing Toucan (shared) crossing at Arnold Street would be connected to the proposed Mercian Way cycleway by a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • A raised carriageway surface is proposed on Worrall Street at the junctions of Mercian Way and James Street, as well as narrowing of the junctions to calm traffic, provide level crossings and shorten crossing distances for pedestrians. The existing speed cushions are proposed to be removed.
